- Maradona Helps A Sick Child To Get A Life Saving Operation -1984
Maradona Shows he has a big Heart. Barely six months into the contract, he was approached by a reserve team player who had been contacted by a desperate father in the nearby town of Acerra. The man’s son was sick, Maradona was told, and without an operation in France he might die. Would Maradona play a charity match and raise money to save a young fan’s life? The 23-year-old superstar, who himself grew up poor in a Buenos Aires shantytown, would never turn down such a request. Napoli president Corrado Ferlaino was less enthusiastic, according to Corriere Della Serra, an Italian national newspaper, unwilling to risk having his star player kicked about a suburban playing field by amateurs. Undeterred, Maradona reportedly paid the release clause in the club’s insurance contract himself, remarking “fuck the Lloyds of London. This game has to be played for that child”. The pitch, Corriere reported, was more like a “potato field”. Footage shows the world’s most expensive footballer warming up in a wintry car park, posing for photos with children who are more coat than kid. He played as he always did, bamboozling defenders and entertaining 10,000 fans packed into the tiny stadium. The match reportedly raised 20 million lire (about £8,000) for the operation and travel costs to France. He never got to do it on a cold, wet night in Stoke, as the saying goes, but Maradona did go out to a freezing, muddy “potato field” in Acerra to raise money for a desperately sick child and score some wonder goals in the process. How many world class players would do that now? #maradona #d10s #maradona10 #napoli #80s #80sfootball #calcio #soccer #calcioitaliano #futbol #retrocalcio #stadiodiegoarmandomaradona #naoles #humanitarian https://www.instagram.com/reel/DIn_xzSyTEj/?igsh=cDEwejBrdXVsZ2Vl

- The epic story of Bernd Schuster
The epic story of Bernd Schuster - the man who crossed all three of LaLiga’s great divides The 65-year-old German (as of 2025) was one of the greatest footballers to have ever plied their trade in LaLiga and he just so happens to be one of two players to have ever represented all three of Spain’s biggest clubs - Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. The only other player to have achieved the same feat is Spaniard left-back Miquel Soler whose La Liga career spanned over two decades Nicknamed ‘the Blonde Angel’, Schuster rose to prominence in 1980 when he was signed by Barca from Bundesliga club FC Cologne and was named runner-up in the Ballon d’Or rankings by the end of his first season at just 20 years of age. He went on to make 316 appearances across all three Spanish powerhouses, scoring a total of 87 goals from midfield. Schuster’s eight-year stay at the Camp Nou ended on a sour note when he decided to cross the great divide by joining arch-rivals Real Madrid in 1988 after being forced out of the Barca squad for an entire season by President Nunez. Under the tutelage of John Toshack, the side was built around five academy products in Emilio Butragueno, Manolo Sanchis, Rafael Vazquez, Michel and Miguel Pardezza, with Schuster as one of the outside talents added to the line-up. While the Champions League may not have been his competition, Schuster had plenty of success in the Copa del Rey, winning three with Barca, one with Madrid and two with Atletico Madrid, which was his next destination. #barcelona #fcb #fcköln #bayerleverkusen #atleticomadrid #realmadrid #laliga #futbol #futebol #footballlegends #footballhistory #retrocacio #retrofutbol
